American Author's California Epic a Favorite with German Readers
International Best Selling author Barbara Wood will
receive the CORINE 2002 Weltbild Readers' Award at a ceremony to be
held on November 6, 2002 at the Rococo Cuvilliés-Theatre in Munich,
Germany. Wood will be recognized for her book, SACRED GROUND
(St. Martin's Press, $24.95), which was selected by German readers as
their favorite novel of 2002. The CORINE International Awards Show,
one of Europe's most prestigious literary events, will be broadcast
on German television on November 9, 2002.
German readers, in conjunction with the Weltbild Publishing
Group, voted SACRED GROUND as their favorite book of 2002.
Set mostly in the Los Angeles basin, SACRED GROUND is filled
with historical detail about the people and events that shaped California.
Not only does the book examine the customs and traditions of California's
early inhabitants, but it also touches on a number of significant periods
in California history, including the settlement of Los Angeles, the
establishment of California's missions and the California Gold Rush.
The Association of Bavarian Publishers and Booksellers
created the CORINE International Book Award to honor outstanding literary
achievement and to recognize books that have attained great success
with the reading public. Among the presenters will be Bavaria's State
Premier, Dr. Edmund Stoiber who is also one of the event's most prominent
sponsors.
SACRED GROUND (ISBN 0-31227-5374) is available in hardcover
and paperback at bookstores and through all major on-line bookstores.
