My
Titles
People often ask me what kind of books I write. Well, that's
hard to say because my books can't really be categorized.
In the early days, when I was trying to find my "voice"
(as authors often do), I aimed for the genres, producing one romantic
suspense, one Gothic, one supernatural suspense, one adventure
thriller, a medical thriller based on a true story, and a romance
that was part ghost-story, part time-travel.
Quite a range!
And then, in 1983, I came out with what I consider my first "big" book -- one that spanned decades, that covered larger events and contained a message. That book was Domina, which I would label a historical. Other big books followed: Green City in the Sun and Virgins of Paradise (which are family sagas with historical overtones) and The Dreaming, about a woman's spiritual quest in nineteenth century Australia. If I were to identify one element that ties these very diverse works together, it would be medicine, since there is a medical thread in each (more dominant in some than in others). But since I am mad about secrets and mysteries, puzzles and passions, magic and the supernatural, you will find these elements aplenty in my books as well!
